Mama, ask for help in postpartum! Trust me, it might be hard, but it will be worth it. Both your workload and mental health will benefit. Do you struggle with asking for help? Are you trying to do it all in motherhood? When you ask for help do you feel like a failure? I could answer yes to all three of these questions! Asking for help was extremely hard for me. Although I was struggling in early postpartum without a plan, but feeling like I should be able to do it all.
Ask for Help
Mama, you will face many physical and emotional challenges in early postpartum, your body might not have the same energy or stamina. From sleep deprivation to hormonal shifts, mama there will be unique situations to navigate. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness or failure. It’s showing your mama strength in a demanding time.
How to Ask for Help
If you’re struggling, it’s okay to admit it. Start by recognizing how you’re feeling and what you need help with. Take a moment to make a list of the people in your life who can lend a helping hand. If you created a postpartum plan then reference those who have offered to help or available if you need support. Then make a list of WHAT you need help with. Is it household chores or a meal or looking after an older child for a few hours, what would alleviate any stress?
Why we Struggle Asking for Help
As a new mama I struggled to ask for help because I felt I should be able to do it all. Others may feel like they’ve failed or they’ll be judged for not having it all together. Let’s be clear, asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness or failure. Seek the support you need to make the transition into motherhood a joyful and supported time.
It’s a powerful choice to say, “I need help.” Embrace your support network and let go of the idea you have to do it all. Remember, asking for help can make the days a little easier, get you the self-care time you need and create a loving home for all. You’ve got this mama!
I created a baby log book for mamas who need help! If you have someone come to help with the baby you can easily leave notes and they have a sheet to track feeds, diapers and any activities.
