Why a Wardrobe Refresh Is Good for mental Health

Postpartum Wardrobe Refresh

Mama are you struggling to feel good in your clothes postpartum? Do you need a wardrobe refresh? Have you considered one as a way to feel better in your postpartum body? After many months of having more costumes than comfortable clothes in my closet I decided to make a big changed. I edited my wardrobe to only include the items I was wearing most often. The pieces that fit and I felt good in.

Sometimes a wardrobe refresh can be a small change but make you feel really good. Here’s how I edited my closet and instantly felt more confident and comfortable in my clothes.

Postpartum Wardrobe Refresh

The Wardrobe Edit

  • Go Through Your Closet – You know there are clothes in there that don’t make you feel good, so let’s move them out. I went through all my items and pulled out anything that was a costume or didn’t fit. I placed the items in 3 piles: donate, keep or store.
  • Let Go of the Uncomfortable Pieces – Be honest about what no longers fits or makes you uncomfortable. Get rid of the items that you haven’t worn in a long time or are too small. Don’t be discouraged! Your body has gone through a huge change and now it’s time to move on from what’s not fitting. (If you don’t want to get rid of a piece simply store it for later.)
  • Highlight What Works – In your closet display the clothing that fits, and is comfortable. There’s nothing more discouraging than looking at a closet full of clothes that don’t fit or work for motherhood. Make your closet something you are excited to look at in the morning.
  • Embrace Flattering Clothing – Dark colors, high waisted, wrap dresses and looser fitting. I know as a mama I want to look good, so I choice to highlight clothing with higher waists and looser fitting tops. Every day my body looks great because I am wearing clothes that fit.
  • Big Changes – Go for it mama! Don’t slowly do this wardrobe refresh. I had one afternoon without my little ones and took an hour to overhaul my closet. I took out everything that was a costume or didn’t fit, replacing them with everyday clothes and items that fit.

If you are able to invest in some postpartum friendly pieces. I think this looks different for everyone but what I found helpful were yoga pants, high-waisted jeans, nursing friendly tops and tops that were too tight. If you’re on a budget, look for lower priced items or I even found some great options at the thrift store.

Now every morning when I go to my closet I’m excited to get dressed. I know all of the clothes in the closet fit, make me feel good and will be great for wearing around little ones. A wardrobe refresh can be an empowering moment for a new mama who is struggling to accept her postpartum body or feeling uncomfortable in the clothes she is wearing. By revamping your wardrobe with everyday clothes that fit and filling it with postpartum-friendly clothing you can embrace your new body and feel more confident in your clothes.
